Truck Roll Bars

A roll bar /  roll cage, is a specially constructed frame built in (or sometimes around) the cab of a vehicle to protect its occupants from being injured in an accident, particularly in the event of a roll-over. Roll cages are used in nearly all purpose-built race cars, and in most cars modified for racing. There are many different roll cage designs depending on the application, hence different racing organizations have differing specifications and regulations (see side bar) They also help to stiffen the chassis, which is desirable in racing applications.

Roll bars and roll cages are not for every vehicle. Safety is a personal decision that only you can make. If something goes wrong on the track, you want to walk away from it. On the other hand, you may not want to tear up the inside of your street car. So, safety has to be a compromise.  Remember, a roll bar does not guarantee your safety in a roll over accident.  Always drive within your limits.

Most types of roll bars will reduce the visibility through your rear view mirror, but the diagonal braced types limit it even more.  There are many makes and models of roll bars, to fit many types of vehicles from style to pure racing. You should do your research before buying a roll bar, keeping in mind what your particular requirements might be. If you are driving a convertible, and decide to "track" your vehicle, the organizers will require a "four-point" type roll bar. You will also want to install "Roll Bar Padding" so in the event of a roll over accident, you have extra padding.  Again, it is required by some organizations.

To compete in any race or rally your roll cage will need to comply with the sanctioning bodies regulations. It is the competitor's responsibility to ensure his/her roll cage complies with the technical regulations appropriate to the event they are competing in.
